INSPIRATION
ARTIST: Jan Van Huysum & Paul Theodor Van Brussel
I wanted to produce something in this specific artwork that I enjoyed to look at, and that something was flowers. I've always found flowers to be beautiful; I find it fascinating that there are so many different varieties in the globe. I want to make the flowers for the artwork I'll be making out of paper, which I will then glue onto the canvas. In addition, I want to paint them to make them appear as lovely as the genuine ones. Even though I knew what I wanted to do, I wasn't sure how I was going to style or arrange it, so my quest for inspiration would be helpful in this regard. I wanted to look into something that was related to the idea I had in mind. I discovered "Jan Van Huysum," an artist, while doing research. He produced a lot of floral-themed artwork. The majority of his works were oil paintings, and "Still-Life of Flowers" was one of his best-known oil paintings. I was inspired by this piece because it featured flowers, which was both the subject I wanted to include in my painting and its composition. I was able to arrange and format my artwork according to my plan thanks to the structure. It also assisted me in locating another motivational picture that offered me a vision for the finished piece. Each flower in the artwork "Still-Life of Flowers" is beautifully rendered, and I like how the artist included and depicted a variety of flowers to highlight each one's individuality. I was able to lay out the composition of my painting with the help of this one. While looking for ideas, I came across "Paul Theodor van Brussel" as the second artist. When I first saw his work "Flower Painting Print", the colors he used and how well he painted the various sorts of flowers in it greatly impressed me. I was much affected by the various varieties of flowers he created as I was viewing his artwork. Since I also wanted to paint flowers for my piece, I reasoned that I could merge this kind of notion onto my painting. This is where one of the influences I got that I wanted to add into my art came from, seeing how intricately detailed and masterfully mixed Paul's artwork was. I wanted to create a range of beautiful flowers that I could add to my paintings, just like the two artists' works that served as my inspiration. In addition, I wanted to include other floral components, such as leaves, and, following in the footsteps of my influences, I wanted to paint flowers in addition to creating them. I was able to compile ideas for my artwork based on my inspirations overall, and these ideas will assist me in beginning to plan the appearance of my piece.
PLANNING
I made the decision to sketch some paper flowers and paint the other flowers for the first section of my plans. To gain a concept of how I was going to produce my artwork, I drew several kinds of leaves and flowers. Drawing many flowers will be very helpful to me in structuring the overall appearance of my artwork. It also helped me come up with a list of possible color colors for when I start painting my finished project.

I chose to include some colors in the second section of my planning to get a sense of the kinds of colors I would probably use in my painting. In addition to adding a color scheme that will be very helpful, I designed four distinct kinds of structures for my artwork. I took this action to examine how I wanted my artwork's style structure to appear. Making this artwork will go much more quickly for me if I have an idea of how I want it to be structured. It will be much easier for me to modify and add to my artwork if I have a variety of styling ideas.

The final planning is how I wanted the overall piece of my painting to look like. During the design phase, I made the decision to paint a rose in the center of the canvas and surround it with the remaining flowers. As soon as I had this in mind, I knew I wanted to use this type structure in my finished piece. Apart from that, I also wanted to add some blossoms to the rose that will be painted because I felt it would look nice. Apart from that, the final layout of my artwork, which is a drawing, would be very helpful to me in deciding what colors to paint the flowers and where to put the other elements.

EXPERIMENTATION
&
PROCESS
For my experimentation I decided to make other origami's besides making a rose versions. I did this in order to see if it would go well with the overall idea of the artwork. The pictures below are the process of me working on my experimentation and as you can see I decided to make three different flowers to see if it would go well with what I wanted to create. From the picture below I made a regular flower that you would see commonly, a rose like flower, and a tulip origami's. With these different type of origami flowers I will have an idea on how I wanted create my artwork.
The picture above from the experiment I did went pretty well, but I didn't end up using it because I thought it wouldn't fit the structure or style I was going for when creating my art piece. There was one of the origami I will consider to add into my piece which is the first picture above that is the white flower. I wanted to incorporate this type of flower, but when I had put it onto the canvas to get an idea of how it would look I thought it didn't look good and didn't suit the style I wanted. It was also to big, but I still wanted to add a different flower to my canvas and in order to do that I decided to make it smaller so that way I can incorporate it onto my canvas.
Once I was done experimenting I had then started on my process of making my artwork. The picture below was from one of the experiment I did, but with a different type of paper that was also bigger. Like I said from my experimentation I wanted to make a different flower that was as the same as the first picture from my experimentation. Taken from that idea I did decide to make a smaller version of the origami flower and this time I actually liked it and knew exactly how I wanted to add it onto my final artwork.
The picture below is a continuation of my process of making a origami flower. This time I wanted to make a rose. Throughout the process of making this rose I decided that I wanted to stick to the same theme of having just roses for my art piece. I really like how roses look as I find them very beuatiful which is why I wanted to incorporate it onto my art piece.
The process below shows another perspective of me making a different origami rose using a different type of paper that had a different color. This type of paper was also big compared to the previous flowers origami I made by using a different type of paper. When making the origami flowers I wanted to use different type of paper as I didn't want my art to have just one type of style. I thought that using two different style of paper was good and also that it would make my artwork look great. The two different types of paper I used to create my origami were regular printer paper and a book page that I tore out from a book. The overall process of making the origami roses were pretty fun and I learned and memorized a lot on how to make a origami flower.
The picture below shows my thoughts and idea of how I wans going to structure my art piece. The first picture shows my ideation of how I wanted my piece to look like before I started hot gluing. The second picture shows how I wanted the final style structure I wanted for my art piece.
Once I was done figuring out how I wanted the structure of my piece to look like and gluing in my origami flowers, I then decided to sketch in the rose I wanted to paint. Just like the final part of planning I did end up choosing to draw the rose in the middle. After I was done drawing in the rose I then decided to paint it and the color I wanted to use to paint the rose was red.
The picture below is the process of painting in the roses. This part went smoothly since I knew where to paint and what color I wanted to use to paint the rose. The color of the rose also serve as a deep meaning in my culture as it is the same color that is used in my ethnic flag. As seen in the picture below the color I chose was red and red in my culture represents bravery and courage.
Once I was done painting in the rose, I then moved on to paint in the background of my artwork. I wanted to use the brown paint color as I thought it would complement the rest of my artwork very well. I'm glad that I chose this color since I thought that it actually turned out great. If chose the first color I had in mind (which was yellow) it wouldn't look as good as it does now.
After I finished painting in the background I then painted in the origami flowers. The color I chose for the the origami flowers are the same color from my ethnic flag. I wanted to use these colors as it already had a meaning in my culture, but also I wanted to represent my culture as it is not very well known. Once I was done painting in the origami flowers I then decided to use other fake roses and leaves I had around in my house and add it into my artwork.
After adding some final touch to my artwork I was then done with creating my artwork that is now known and titled as "Karen Field of Flowers", I named it this because the color I chose represents a part of my culture and my ethnicity is "Karen" and also because I had incorporated many flowers using colors that would represents my flag colors. The four pictures below is my final artwork in a different lighting and background color.
REFLECTION
I felt the artwork seemed fairly well done overall, and it came out fantastic. Although I'm happy with the way this artwork turned out, I do wish I had used a wider range of flowers when creating these pieces. I thought the artwork would have looked much better if I had included a variety of flower kinds. If I were to paint this over again, I probably would have included more aspects, such as a variety of flowers rather than just one kind and sticking with that. Even while I enjoy the idea of using only roses, the artwork would seem more distinctive if it included other types of flowers. Aside from my desire to replace the flowers, I felt the artwork looked beautiful all around. I was happy with how my artwork came out, and I hope to use this particular artistic approach again in the future. I had fun producing this artwork, and I learned that I should always strive to explore more options, even if I think they wouldn't look well. I believe the overall picture would have looked much better if I had tried and investigated more options. I will keep with me the lessons I gained from creating this artwork, and I believe that if I approach it with that mindset, my artwork will turn out better. I enjoyed creating this piece overall, and I'm happy with how my artwork turned out.
